Thirunelveli, the southernmost district of Tamil Nadu is described as a microcosm of the state. Panchalankurichi, a small but historic village, is 3 Kms. From Ottapidaram. From here the great warrior Kattabomman Known as Veerapandiya Kattabomman rose his voice against the British regime in the 17th century A.D. Sankarankovil is a unique temple dedicated to sankaranarayana who is the combined manifestation of Siva and Vishnu. There are two other shrines dedicated to Siva and Parvathi.
Vakaikulam (Tuticorin) is the nearest Airport from Tirunelveli. It is an important railway junction in the Southern Railway and is connected to all major cities, like Chennai, Madurai, Trichi, Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin & Mumbai.
Tirunelveli is served by a good network of roads. Both Government and Private Omnie buses form the network of Road Transport in this City. The town is on the way to Kanniyakumari from Madurai.
